Book review: The Wishing Game

Caution: This book is not for the faint of heart.

Friendships are beautiful. Some stand the test of time while some fade away like a distant memory. And some are just plain evil. And here you have it folks – Patrick Redmond’s ‘The Wishing Game’. It is 1954 and at Kirkston Abbey School for Boys, it’s yet another winter term. Jonathan Palmer, a timid 14-year-old, is struggling at school. To everyone’s amazement, Richard Rokeby – handsome, haughty and rebellious – takes him under his wing and this signals the beginning of a nightmare.

As the friendship becomes oppressive and Jonathan finds the proverbial noose tightening around his neck, an innocent game turns into something sinister and everyone is powerless to stop the evil from being unleashed.

This book is a bonanza for horror lovers and you might find yourself re-reading some parts simply out of morbid fascination. Delving into the big, bad world of the supernatural, Patrick Redmond has guaranteed sleepless nights with this book.
